Franklin is based on the book series created by children's author Paulette Bourgeois and illustrator Brenda Clark. The animated children's TV series is a hand drawn 2D creation produced by Nelvana Entertainment and debuted on CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) in 1987. Two 11-minute stories are featured per episode. Later a new series was launched on Treehouse TV in 2004 with new voice actors and best of all, new adventures. The show is targeted toward preschool aged children and introduces topics familiar with being a kid and growing up playing and learning with the help of Mr and Mrs Turtle.
Franklin is a growing young turtle who "could count by twos and tie his shoes". Now he's learned a lot through his small village of friends in Woodland. He likes sports, swimming, drawing, shoofly pie, but he's been known to be scared of the dark and thunderstorms from time to time.
Trivia: The original French language books contain different character names as we know on the TV series including: Benjamin (Franklin), Henrietta (Harriet), Martin (Bear), Béatrice (Goose), Lili (Beaver), Basile (Rabbit), Aurélie (Otter), Raffin (Fox), Arnaud (Snail), Hubert (Eagle), Eloise (Skunk), Jacques (Jack), Ludo (Moose), and Vermillon (Goldie). Music is composed by Ray Parker and Tom Szczesniak while the main title theme we know and love was written and performed by Bruce Cockburn. Feel free to look around a bit.
